Base Pay Range

$17.00/hr - $20.50/hr

Walgreens Pharmacy Technician positions transition from a transaction-based environment to a patient‑centric one. As a Pharmacy Technician or Apprentice, you will interact with customers, build patient relationships, and receive training to become a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certified technician. Walgreens invests in an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP & the Department of Labor.

Responsibilities
  • In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and related duties per company policies.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions; if PTCB certified, assist and coach other technicians and cashiers.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, greeting customers, resolving issues, and maintaining professional service traits.
  • Support billing and cash handling, register sales, and assist customers to OTC aisles.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacists’ personal attention, including physician calls.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party program prescription services.
  • Assist with inventory management: ordering, unpacking, checking, storing pharmaceuticals; record shortages and overages.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, labeling samples, and coordinating with external providers.
  • Maintain relationships with the local medical community through detailing and outreach.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of the Pharmacy Department.
  • Comply with all company policies, uphold respectful coworker relationships, and complete special assignments as directed.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients, greet them, and offer assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues, answer questions, and ensure a positive experience.
  • Share customer service best practices and build strong relationships with valuable customers.
Operations
  • Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision, reviewing compliance with the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Enter patient and drug information accurately; fill prescriptions, verify medicine, check interactions, and maintain workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately and follow company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Adhere to Walgreens policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing.
  • Register sales, handle cash, and assist customers via OTC aisles.
  • Perform clerical duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager.
  • Assist with clinic services, including sample labeling and patient coordination.
  • Assist in developing relationships with medical providers and health groups.
  • Maintain pharmacy department appearance and supplies.
  • Follow policies and maintain respectful coworker relations.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as directed.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification via designated training program; may be required for promotion.
  • Attend manager‑requested training and acquire continuing education credits to stay current in healthcare and pharmacy.
Basic Qualifications
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
