This client is a leader in cutting-edge automation for high-growth markets including medical devices, life sciences, renewable energy, mobility, logistics, and heavy industry. They provide mission-critical R&D pre-validation that sets the stage for full-scale, high-precision automation systems.
They’re seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with deep experience designing industrial automation systems and tooling, plus strong command of mechanical principles, 3D modeling, and engineering documentation.
In this role, you’ll operate with full ownership—driving projects from concept through delivery, elevating engineering standards, and challenging your team to build world-class automated solutions.
What You’ll Do:- Lead and enforce mechanical engineering design standards
- Concept, review, and refine designs for complex automated equipment
- Run internal/external design reviews, customer buy-offs, and field root-cause analysis
- Own program delivery—hitting milestones and ensuring “right-the-first-time” solutions
- Oversee customer scope, ensuring all technical and contractual requirements are met
- Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers
- Track team progress against budgets, schedules, and project goals
- Coordinate and document project activities, including Engineering Change Orders
- Analyze as-built tools and develop design updates
- Partner with customers to understand requirements and implement custom solutions
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 15+ years of relevant experience; machine design strongly preferred
- 5+ years of 3D modeling experience (Solid Works required)
- Ability to interpret technical procedures and present to customers and leadership
- Strong problem-solving across diverse engineering challenges
- Familiarity with machining tools, manufacturing, and assembly processes
Ability to read mechanical and electrical controls drawings - Excellent organization, communication, and multitasking skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
