What We're Looking For

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking a Project Accountant. This role is responsible for the financial management and accounting of multiple client projects, ensuring accurate project costs, billing, and financial reporting. The position requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of project accounting principles, and the ability to work effectively with project managers and clients.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full project accounting lifecycle from setup to closeout for multiple projects
• Act as advisor on project billings for various contract types (Time & Materials, Fixed Fee, Cost Plus
• Monitor and analyze project costs, revenues, and profitability
• Prepare Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition entries
• Review and process project-related expenses and ensure proper cost allocation
• Prepare project adjustments as directed by Project Directors and Managers
• Coordinate with Project Managers to maintain accurate project budgets and forecasts
• Analyze project variance reports and investigate discrepancies
• Assist in monthly close processes related to project accounting
• Prepare client-specific financial reports and invoices
• Monitor project cash flow and assist with collections
• Maintain project fee schedules and rate tables
• Support annual audit requirements related to project accounting
• Develop and document project accounting procedures
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3-5 years of project accounting experience, preferably in engineering, architecture, or professional services
• Experience in the AEC industry preferred but not required
• Proficiency in project-based ERP systems and accounting software
• Experience with project cost accounting, billing, and revenue recognition
• Strong understanding of contract terms and project lifecycle accounting
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Advanced Excel skills required
• Experience with BST or similar project-based accounting systems preferred
• CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
• Strong communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of staff and clients
• Excellent collaboration abilities with Project Managers and technical staff
• Ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Problem-solving mindset with ability to take initiative
• Professional demeanor and customer service orientation
• Team player with ability to work independently
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Other duties as assigned
