We are now accepting applications for a qualified Assistant/Associate Professor of Physiology at Belmont University.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to design, implement, and evaluate student‑centered, clinically integrated curriculum content in human physiology.
  • Serve as a content expert and facilitator in large‑ and small‑group learning environments, including team‑based learning, case‑based learning, and simulation.
  • Develop and deliver high‑quality instructional materials that integrate physiology with other foundational and clinical sciences.
  • Assess student performance through formative and summative assessments, aligned with learning objectives and competency‑based outcomes.
  • Provide academic support and mentorship to students, including those pursuing scholarly work in areas related to physiology, medical education, or related disciplines.
  • Engage in scholarship and contribute to the advancement of knowledge through educational research or discipline‑based inquiry.
  • Participate in departmental and college‑level service, including course development, curriculum committees, accreditation preparation, and faculty governance.

  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies, including case‑based, problem‑based, or team‑based learning.
  • Experience in curriculum development, educational assessment, and student mentoring.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity in medical education or discipline‑specific research.
  • Participation in national medical education organizations or scholarly societies.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher, with an emerging or established reputation in medical education or physiology.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
  • Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of Banner Web, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Required Education

A terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or equivalent) in physiology or a closely related biomedical science field.

Required Experience
  • Demonstrated experience teaching physiology or related foundational science content in an LCME‑accredited medical school or equivalent health professions program.
  • Evidence of a commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary education and professional excellence.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
