Nossi College of Art and Design is seeking energetic and qualified adjunct faculty members for the General Education department, specifically for Contemporary Math.

This campus-based position is located in Nashville, TN.

Position Concept

The ideal candidate will be able to encourage, motivate, and coach creative college students.

The course focuses on mathematical applications in basic business/financial topics and introduces electronic spreadsheet competency.

Course Objectives

Students will demonstrate competency in understanding how mathematics impacts art, business, and daily life, using mathematical reasoning to solve problems, make financial decisions, and interpret quantitative data.

Instructor Expectations

The instructor is a key part of the academic program, serving as a master teacher who effectively manages the classroom, adapts to various situations, and relates well to students, faculty, and administration. The instructor must support the college's philosophy and policies.

Classes meet once weekly over 15 weeks.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with at least 15 credits in the taught subject.
  • Thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Ability to teach, coach, mentor, and inspire students.
  • Minimum of five years professional experience in the relevant field.
Responsibilities
  • Teach according to the approved syllabus, with revisions subject to approval.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Inform students of course requirements, materials, policies, grading, and project details during the first class.
  • Record attendance separately from attendance sheets and maintain all class records.
  • Monitor and chart student progress through observation, reinforcement, remediation, tutoring, and review.
  • Administer weekly quizzes, exams, and maintain current grade records.
  • Counsel, advise, and motivate students.
  • Report any personal or psychological issues affecting students to the appropriate college authorities.
  • Complete and record grading promptly and accurately.
  • Notify students of mid-term grades in writing.
  • Ensure classrooms are in good order after each class.
  • Provide 3.5 hours of learning opportunities per class session.
