Who We Are

RePublic Schools serves more than 2,900 scholars across seven schools in Nashville and Jackson. We are the only charter network solely committed to reimagining public education in the South—rooted in love, achievement, and belonging, and grounded in equity-driven practices that honor scholars’ identities and lived experiences.

We are seeking a Middle School Literacy Instructional Coach who believes deeply in adolescent literacy development, rigorous grade‑level texts, and the power of strong teacher coaching to drive scholar achievement. At RePublic, our instructional beliefs align with The Opportunity Myth, which demonstrates that scholars thrive when they have access to grade‑appropriate assignments, strong instruction, deep engagement, and educators who hold unwavering high expectations.

The Middle School Literacy Instructional Coach is expected to model and champion these beliefs, ensuring teachers design learning experiences that honor scholar brilliance, cultivate critical reading and writing skills, and expand opportunities for academic success.

What You’ll Do Instructional Leadership & Coaching (Literacy Focus)
  • Develop and execute a strategic literacy coaching plan aligned to RePublic’s ELA vision, middle school standards, and school‑wide academic priorities. Conduct regular classroom observations and provide targeted, actionable feedback on reading instruction, writing instruction, close reading routines, and literacy discourse.
  • Lead coaching cycles, including lesson modeling (e.g., read‑alouds, shared reading, small‑group instruction), co‑teaching, and guided practice.
  • Build teacher capacity in foundational literacy routines such as text annotation, evidence‑based writing, vocabulary development, and complex text analysis.
Instructional Planning & Professional Support
  • Support teachers in planning rigorous, standards‑aligned ELA lessons and unit internalizations using the HQIMs.
  • Provide expertise on high‑quality middle school literacy curriculum, novel studies, and reading/writing workshop components.
  • Facilitate weekly planning meetings and team PLCs focused on literacy priorities.
  • Support new or developing teachers in establishing effective literacy‑based instructional routines and classroom culture systems.
Data‑Driven Instruction
  • Lead teachers in analyzing reading and writing data, including exit tickets, common assessments, iReady/other literacy screeners, and benchmark data.
  • Identify scholar trends in fluency, comprehension, writing proficiency, and vocabulary development. Support teachers in designing targeted literacy interventions and small‑group instruction based on data.
  • Monitor progress toward literacy goals and collaborate with school leadership to adjust instructional priorities.
Professional Learning & Development
  • Design and facilitate PD focused on literacy practices (e.g., close reading, writing instruction, discussion protocols, text‑dependent questioning).
  • Lead professional learning communities that model strong collaboration, reflection, and instructional strategy practice.
  • Provide training on curriculum implementation and assessment literacy.
Instructional Systems & Alignment
  • Ensure fidelity to ELA curriculum usage, pacing guides, and assessment structures.
  • Support alignment to RePublic’s academic framework and observation tools. Maintain coaching logs, observation notes, and teacher development data.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 3 years of successful ELA teaching experience (middle school preferred)
  • Strong track record of scholar achievement in literacy using past academic achievement data (MAAP, interims, screening data, etc.)
  • Deep expertise in literacy instruction, writing instruction, adolescent literacy development, and classroom culture
