Position: Metro Action Commission Head Start Teacher Assistant

Position Description

Full‑time, non‑Civil Service position in the Head Start program located with the Metropolitan Action Commission includes medical, dental, pension and other insurance benefits.

Work hours:

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Typical Duties
  • Extensive Background Checks and random drug tests are performed on applicants for this position with MAC.
  • Assist classroom teacher
  • Serve as a bus monitor
  • Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
  • Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities
  • Perform tasks associated with the education component and assure confidentiality
  • Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors
  • Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom (i.e., handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, preparing children for health services and community visits)
  • Report any children concerns to the (assigned) Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor
  • Insure daily implementation of the family style food service
  • Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program
  • Assume other task‑related duties as requested
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and willing to be enrolled in a CDA Program. Valid Driver License.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent must be accepted by the State of Tennessee and recognized by a higher education accreditor.
Preferred Experience , Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities revious work experience with young children
  • CDA or AA degree in Early Childhood Education
