Position: Assistant Teacher / Guide

About

the Role

The Assistant Guide is an experienced educator who fosters independence, self-discovery, and a love of learning in students. They create a prepared environment, observe individual interests, and tailor activities accordingly. The assistant guide mentors and upholds Montessori principles, collaborating with parents and colleagues to support holistic child development.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Planning and Instruction

Work with the lead teacher to observe and support children, prepare the environment, and give lessons as directed by the lead guide

Answer children’s questions, grade assignments, and give lessons and assessments as directed by lead guide

When class is not in session, assist by entering grades and class observation notes, preparing Montessori works, and cleaning and organizing the environment

Serve as a mentor and point of contact for a small group of students assigned at the beginning of the year

Assume lead role during lead teacher absence

Classroom Culture

Foster habits of excellence, order, and courtesy through practices like connecting before redirecting, using a warm tone, matching children with tasks, presenting virtuous literature, and sharing responsibility for all children.

Be a model of character and strive toward virtue for students

Supervise students within the classroom and outside of the classroom on the playground, during bathroom breaks, at lunchtime, and on field trips

Family Communication

Participate in classroom family communication and parent teacher conferences

Assist in preparing monthly progress reports and quarterly report cards

Professional Development and Relationships

Check-in with the lead guide in formal meetings at least weekly

Observe and provide feedback at least twice per term to the lead guide

Participate in formal check-in with academic support team members at least biweekly

Participate in teacher meetings and pairings, team and school-wide planning and professional development, and data reviews

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred experience working or volunteering in high-need communities and/or Montessori environments.

Associate’s degree and/or appropriate child care credential (preferred)

Committed to the mission and core values of Invictus Nashville

Flexibility, initiative, and personal responsibility to work in a fast-paced startup environment

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Skills in instructional practices and classroom management for student achievement

Develops and maintains positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and other members of the Invictus Nashville community

Ability to work independently and collaborate in teams with a wide range of individuals

Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community

Experience and evidence of ability to foster collaboration and teamwork among diverse groups of students

Compensation

Invictus Nashville offers full-time employees competitive salaries and benefits options. As indicated below, individuals hired in this role have the following salary range associated with their experience: $40,000 -$55,000
