Related Arts Teacher

About the Role

The Related Arts Teacher is an experienced and passionate educator who fosters independence, self-discovery, and a love of learning in students through high-quality instruction in their area of specialty (e.g., Art, Music, Physical Education). This role is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that cultivate creativity, wellness, expression, and skill development beyond the core academic program.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong interest in Montessori-aligned practices, a commitment to whole-child development, and the ability to thoughtfully integrate their specialty into the broader school curriculum. As a member of a growing, start-up school community, the Specials Teacher must be flexible, collaborative, and innovative.

• Planning and Instruction
• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum within their specialty area (Art, Music, Physical Education, or other), aligned to developmental needs and school priorities.
• Plan and deliver dynamic, engaging lessons that build students’ skills, confidence, and appreciation for the discipline.
• Integrate the specialty area into interdisciplinary learning experiences in collaboration with classroom teachers.
• Assess and evaluate student progress through observations, performances, projects, demonstrations, and other developmentally appropriate assessments.
• Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families.
• Serve as a mentor and point of contact for a small group of students assigned at the beginning of the year.

• Create a supportive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment where all students feel encouraged to explore, take risks, and grow.
• Utilize varied instructional strategies and materials to meet diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Model strong character, professionalism, and a commitment to the school’s values.
• Supervise students in instructional and non-instructional settings, including transitions, playground, lunch, bathroom breaks, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.

• Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues through consistent and professional communication.
• Prepare and share monthly progress updates and quarterly report cards aligned to school expectations.
• Partner with families to support student growth and engagement in the specialty area.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary instruction and school-wide initiatives.
• Participate in scheduled coaching check-ins with an assigned instructional coach.
• Engage fully in staff meetings, team planning, professional development sessions, and data reviews.
• Contribute positively to the professional learning community and school culture.

• Support school-wide events, performances, exhibitions, or physical education activities related to the specialty area
• Demonstrate adaptability and initiative in a fast-paced, start-up school environment
• Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field preferred
• Committed to the mission and core values of Invictus Nashville
• Two or more years of effective teaching experience in urban schools in high-need communities
• Knowledge of Tennessee state physical education standards and curriculum frameworks
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
• Flexibility, initiative, and personal responsibility to work in a fast-paced startup environment
• Adaptability and flexibility to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students
• Certification in First Aid and CPR (preferred)
• Eligibility for teacher certification in Tennessee (preferred)
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and other members of the Invictus Nashville community
• Ability to work independently and collaborate in teams with a wide range of individuals
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community
• Evidence of ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect among students

This position may require up to 15% of travel.

• Annual Salary: $55,000–$68,000 (based on experience and credentials)
