Based in Nashville, you’ll have the opportunity to work on exciting and engaging infrastructure projects that will shape the future of transportation in both Nashville and across Tennessee. You’ll collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers and project managers to identify and evaluate deficiencies on roadway systems, execute solutions that provide a balance between functionality and cost efficiency, all while gaining hands‑on experience and mentorship to advance your career.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Collect and analyze data for inclusion in project plans and reports
- Assist with roadway and highway design tasks under the guidance of senior engineers
- Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects using industry‑standard design software packages
- Perform design calculations in accordance with best engineering practices
- Support traffic analysis and modeling efforts (Synchro, VISSIM)
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure compliance with TDOT and federal design standards
- Participate in internal design reviews and contribute to innovative solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Transportation, Municipal, or Traffic focus preferred) from an ABET‑accredited university
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience with state or municipal DOTs (internships count toward experience)
- EIT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Familiarity with DOT design guidelines and AASHTO standards
- Strong analytical and time‑management skills
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Micro Station and/or Open Roads Designer and a variety of transportation engineering analysis and design software
- Experience preparing transportation design documents for public agencies
- Knowledge of project delivery processes and ability to manage tasks independently

Base pay range: $75,000.00/yr – $90,000.00/yr. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
