Overview

Barge Design Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our growing Transportation team in Nashville, TN. In this leadership role, you will oversee and direct bridge inspection teams, ensuring compliance with the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). This position offers the opportunity to play a critical role in safeguarding public infrastructure by delivering high-quality inspections, accurate reporting, and actionable recommendations that support the safety and reliability of transportation systems across the region.

Responsibilities
  • Be able to travel up to 25% statewide in TN and potentially into bordering States
  • Must be punctual, prepared and dependable
  • Prepare inspection equipment and documentation for inspections
  • Perform NBIS inspections and the evaluations for bridge types including but not limited to: steel / concrete culverts; reinforced / prestressed concrete beam bridges; steel girders/box beams/trusses; and timber
  • Be safety conscious and always adhere to safety protocols and procedures
  • Be able to work with colleagues in a team setting
  • Be able to carry equipment up to 30 lbs., including ladders and small boats
  • Maintain in good condition the inspection tools and equipment
  • Be able to work effectively in challenging conditions such as heights, hot & cold temperatures, in boats & waterways, thick vegetation and confined spaces
  • Document bridge component conditions and collect data through detailed notes, measurements, sketches and photographs using e-devices
  • Reporting data in Asset Management web-based software
  • Supervise the efficient creation of draft inspection reports using Inspect

    X and other Agency specific software
  • Lead Emergency Response Inspections when required
  • Complete required trainings and certifications within required time frames
  • Demonstrate continuous learning & professional development
  • Is well organized and possesses excellent attention to detail
  • Creates Project Safety Plans and Inspection Schedules
  • Coordinates inspection support personnel and schedules, special equipment (Under-bridge vehicles & lifts)
  • Tracks inspection and report schedules
  • QA/QC Review and sign-off on Final report submittals
  • Assist the Sr Bridge Inspection Team Leader in planning projects and resources
  • Possesses a strong technical knowledge
Education & Experience Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited 4-year college/university
  • 2-8 years of relevant field and office experience
  • Certification in the National Highway Institute (NHI) Course # 130055/130056 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges) AND NHI Course # 130053 (Bridge Inspection Refresher)
  • Certification in the National Highway Institute (NHI) Course # 130078 (Bridge Inspection Techniques for NSTM)
  • Confined Space Training
  • Proficiency with Blue Beam Revu
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Experience in the Load Rating of Bridges
  • Showing interest and/or having Experience working with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), (Drones)
  • Valid US Driver’s License with clean driving record
