Looking for your next challenge? North America Sort Centers (NASC) are looking for a skilled, highly motivated Sr. Operations Engineer to join the Asset Maximization Planner (AMP) team. The Sort Center network is the critical Middle-Mile solution in the Amazon Transportation Services (ATS) group, linking Fulfillment Centers to the Last Mile. The experience of our customers is dependent on our ability to efficiently execute volume flow through the middle-mile network.

This position will have an impact on both network design and process design engineering for the NASC. If the notion of leading engineering projects amongst the world’s brightest talent to full potential excites you; if the idea of using ground breaking technologies to develop sortation and logistics systems in the multi-national juggernaut that is Amazon has your attention, then keep reading.

Are you an innovative leader that wants to be part of world-class sortation centers and logistics systems across the globe? Do you want a high level of ownership in solving complex problems? Does the challenge of designing systems and processes that leverage automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies and robotics appeal to you? If so, we have the job for you!

We’re looking to add a high‑impact operations engineer to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to develop innovative and cost‑effective solutions for our sortation and distribution systems. Your projects will be a mix of template‑based and designed‑from‑scratch work with ownership of modeling end‑to‑end process flow for each design. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast‑paced, often ambiguous environment.

Our team works on hundreds of projects each year. You will be challenged; you will learn; you will work on high‑impact, high‑visibility projects; you will grow.

A day in the life
  • Coordinate efforts to model optimal solutions and processes for the sortation and transportation network through material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
  • Work with teams across Amazon to identify opportunities and provide data‑driven decision support to improve capacity and material flow optimization tools, material flow performance, simulation, and emulation of existing site performance.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners.
  • Build strong partnership with operations field leaders to understand improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze and solve operational barriers with a focus on understanding root causes and driving forward solutions.
  • Collaborate with BI/Data Engineer teams to develop new and existing data sources to continually improve data quality.
  • Execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions with effective communication skills.
  • Travel 30% – 50% domestically, with variable intensity.
About the team

The NASC Under‑the‑Roof Optimization AMP Team’s sole objective is to develop tools for under‑roof simulation and optimization, supporting the needs of our internal and external stakeholders (i.e. Capacity Planning, Labor Planning, NASC Engineering, Finance, Safety and Operations). We develop products and tools to evaluate what‑if design and operations scenarios for new and existing sort centers to understand their robustness, stability, scalability, and cost‑effectiveness.

We conceptualize new data‑science solutions, using optimization and machine learning platforms, to analyze new and existing processes, identify and reduce non‑value added steps, and increase overall performance and rate.
