Our client is an employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm with a strong national reputation and a growing restoration practice in Middle Tennessee. They offer the culture of a smaller firm with the resources and career paths of a larger one.
The OpportunityThis is a hands-on leadership role for a restoration designer who wants to lead a team and still do technical work. You'll guide a local group of engineers and scientists on stream, wetland, and floodplain restoration projects across Tennessee and nearby states. Your work will cover field assessment, concept design, final design, and construction. You'll also manage projects, mentor staff, build client relationships, and help grow the practice in the region.
WhatYou'll Do
- Lead the local restoration design team on stream, wetland, and floodplain projects
- Apply natural channel design, geomorphology, hydrology, and hydraulics to restoration work
- Prepare and review grading plans, construction drawings, quantities, specs, and cost estimates
- Run and oversee hydrologic, hydraulic, geomorphic, and ecological analyses
- Lead field assessments and data collection to support design
- Provide construction-phase support and coordinate field oversight
- Work with clients, contractors, regulators, and internal teams throughout delivery
- Manage projects, balance team workload, and mentor staff
- Help grow the firm's restoration presence in the region
Required
- Degree in engineering, ecology, geomorphology, environmental science, or a related field
- Experience designing stream, wetland, floodplain, or other nature-based restoration projects
- Background in one or more of these areas: stream morphology, fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, or ecology
- Experience producing design plans, technical analyses, specs, or cost estimates
- Restoration fieldwork experience
- Experience leading teams, managing projects, and mentoring staff
Preferred
- PE, PWS, or similar credential
- Rosgen or other restoration-focused training
- Experience with stream quantification tools and Section 401/404 permitting
- Civil 3D, HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS, and ArcGIS experience
- Employee ownership and profit sharing
- Performance bonus and 401(k) with match
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus disability coverage
- Tuition assistance and professional development
- A clear path to grow a regional practice
