Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing some 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure facilities and provides effective community supervision in support of successful reentry.

Job

Overview:

The Correctional Compliance Specialist 2 provides administrative support to the Audit Director 1
- Institutional Compliance within the Office of Inspector General (OIG). Duties and responsibilities include assisting with audits of TDOC and privately managed facilities, preparing compliance reports, and assisting in follow-up audits to ensure findings are corrected. Additionally, the Correctional Compliance Specialist 2 assists in reviewing and developing inspection instruments used to monitor compliance. This position reports directly to the Audit Director 1
- Institutional Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with auditing all facilities, to include privately managed facilities for medical, behavioral health, and/or food service audits;
  • Assist the Senior Compliance Specialist with any compliance matters or directives/ initiatives as approved;
  • Prepare audit paperwork/documentation needed for each audit scheduled;
  • Report deficiencies to management for review;
  • Complete pre-audit work in preparation for upcoming audits;
  • Assist in follow-up audits to ensure findings are corrected;
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive staff;
  • Assist with reviewing and developing inspection instruments;
  • Review policies, as assigned; and
  • Provide other administrative support, as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree and experience equivalent to five years of correctional work.

    Substitution of Experience for

    Education:

    Qualifying full-time professional or paraprofessional correctional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

    OR

    5 years of compliance or auditing experience in correctional facilities or programs.
