Job SummaryProvides expert leadership in a specialized healthcare team and the patient to assure optimal cost-effective drug therapy. This includes developing specific pharmacotherapeutic goals, recommending a regimen and developing a monitoring plan to meet the individualized drug therapy needs of the patient. The clinical specialist is responsible for leading efforts in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy and works to continuously improve process and practice in the institution to enhance safety of medication therapy.

Clinical Pharmacist Specialist - Outpatient GYN at The Vanderbilt Clinic !
- Provides critical oversight of patient safety which directly impacts patient care in the outpatient Oncology Clinic space.
- Collaborates with clinic providers, nurses, and APPs to make clinical decisions regarding patient treatments that are specific to oncology.
- Must have oncology specific training.
- Monday - Friday day shift hours.
- Coordinates the delivery of clinical pharmacy services in assigned areas (in concert with Operational Managers).
- Ensures the quality, safety, and consistency of clinical pharmacy services in assigned areas.
- Develops and implements clinical programs designed to enhance patient outcomes and promote the most cost-effective utilization of medications.
- Develops and implements educational programs that advance the professional development, knowledge and effectiveness of staff and clinical pharmacists.

- Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Intermediate):
Has demonstrated a high level of proficiency in understanding computers or has successfully completed additional training for applications that are used to support more complex or automated medication use processes. Is capable of using the advanced features of pharmaceutical computer applications to support patient care issues of moderate difficulty. - Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Expert):
Demonstrates expert knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the organization. Demonstrates expertise in process improvement, quality assurance practices and/or programs. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement and ensures compliance with a federal, state and local regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures. May represent the organization at regulatory and industry groups for discussing rules and regulations. - Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation & Dispensing (Novice):
Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully review, prepare and dispense prescribed medications. This includes being proficient in the general principles of aseptic technique utilized to compound sterile preparations (CSPs) to minimize the risk of contamination (where applicable). - Medication Management (Expert):
Is a recognized expert and authority in Medication Management. Occupies the position that is the last internal resource for support or direction. Takes the lead role in developing best practices in medication management. Has the ability to determine the clinical appropriateness of each medication taken by the patient, determine the appropriateness of the dose, dosage form, indication, contraindications, potential adverse effects and potential problems with concomitant medications.
Able to monitor for therapeutic duplication or other unnecessary medications, interpret, monitor and assessing patient's laboratory results as they relate to medication therapy and provide drug information to other healthcare professionals, patients and their families. - Program Management (Novice):
Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to administer a program or product. Works under the direction of others. - Mentoring & Coaching (Advanced):
