This position is located with the Nashville Fire Department (NFD) and assists with administering emergency medical care to injured and critically ill individuals in emergency environments or during transportation to medical facilities as part of an emergency medical team.

  • Responds to incidents requiring emergency medical care.
  • Determines the nature and extent of injury or illness.
  • Establishes priority for emergency care according to state regulations.
  • Provides emergency care.
  • Lifts and moves patients for treatment and transportation.
  • Operates emergency medical equipment.
  • Records patient information and vital signs.
  • Communicates with hospital emergency departments or medical control.
  • Monitors and cares for the patient during transport.
  • Maintains medical equipment and supplies.
  • Keeps the vehicle clean and operational.
  • Participates in ongoing training.

Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid Tennessee license as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and meeting NFPA medical standards. Must be at least 21 years old prior to employment.


LICENSES REQUIRED

  • Valid Driver License
  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

FAILURE TO MAINTAIN A VALID AEMT LICENSE WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION.

Desired skills and knowledge include a thorough understanding of Tennessee EMS regulations, emergency medical care principles, advanced procedures, ambulance equipment, local geography, communication codes, and the ability to operate emergency vehicles and equipment, diagnose injuries, and make quick decisions.
