Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) – Pediatric Neurology

Join Vanderbilt University Medical Center as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) in the Pediatric Neurology department.

Job Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team focused on the care of children with early onset seizures and other neurologic disorders. The APP provides evidence‑based care, demonstrates advanced medical and nursing knowledge, and collaborates with an interprofessional team, including trainees from various disciplines. This full‑time position is based at the outpatient pediatric neurology clinic on campus and includes outreach locations as needed.

Primary Responsibilities: Assess, diagnose, plan, and prescribe medication, provide health promotion for children, adolescents, and young adults with neurologic disorders. The APP will:

  • Provide diagnostic and follow‑up services.
  • Obtain and document a comprehensive health history.
  • Perform a complete, in‑depth physical examination.
  • Order and interpret relevant diagnostic tests based on age, history, and physical findings.
  • Analyze data to determine health status and identify differential diagnoses.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to diagnose acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manage diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Identify complications and order appropriate interventions.
  • Partner with physicians regarding care plans.
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialty services.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about assessments, treatments, and management.
  • Document and dictate key components of patient progress via procedural or clinic notes.
  • Demonstrate professional practice behaviors, including preceptor/mentoring and education of students and nursing staff.
  • Seek opportunities for research and evidence‑based practice analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent; registered nurse (RN) license.
  • Tennessee state licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Board certification as a Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Experience assessing and managing care for children, adolescents, young adults, and families with neurologic disorders.
  • Experience with evaluation and management of headaches preferred.

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, with occasional flexibility for clinic efficiency.
