SummaryThe Occupational Therapist develops and provides occupational therapy treatments and supervises treatments by assistants and volunteers in individual or group therapy programs. This role works closely with occupational therapy assistants, interns, direct support professionals, educational specialists, and others to provide high-quality care and serves as a consultant on OT issues, treatments, techniques, and equipment.
Essential Duties- Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team in preparing, implementing, and evaluating treatment plans and therapeutic devices for assigned caseload; provide treatment, guidance, and instruction to clients in individual and group settings.
- Assess clients’ performance in activities of daily living, sensory motor development, and motor coordination; develop OT plans of treatment with short- and long-range goals based on assessments.
- Maintain records and progress reports; communicate with other staff regarding client treatment and progress.
- Recommend, design, fabricate, and maintain equipment and therapeutic devices; attend staff meetings to discuss adaptive equipment, wheelchair modifications, and splinting/positioning techniques. May adapt or repair equipment.
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university.
- Registered Occupational Therapist licensed by the state of Tennessee.
- Ability to train direct-care staff in OT services for clients.
- 5 years of clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist providing services to children with developmental disabilities.
- Managerial skills in directing subordinates.
- Proficiency with personal computers and software applications.
