Job Summary

The Mammographer performs diagnostic mammographic procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all mammographic procedures and views according to established department protocols, including: proper execution of mammographic examination, managing patient load by shift, reviewing exposed radiographs for positioning and labeling, completing documentation forms, and ensuring timely delivery of images to viewing areas or PACS.
  • Maintains room and equipment cleanliness and restocks the work area; demonstrates correct anatomic positioning and working knowledge of radiographic equipment; participates in quality control and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Accepts assignments from supervisor, performs duties beyond routine tasks, and provides radiation protection to patient, staff, and self by adhering to safety standards and wearing dosimeter badges.
  • Demonstrates competency in procedures across adult to geriatric ages, communicates procedures to patients, assesses learning needs, and provides age-appropriate education related to the procedure.
  • Performs RIS transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure information for medical records and billing.
  • Conducts visual maintenance checks on equipment, reports malfunctions, records downtimes, and notifies appropriate personnel per procedures.
  • Communicates with hospital staff and physicians to exchange pertinent patient information; assists in scheduling exams and addresses patient-related problems via appropriate channels.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and teamwork, with flexible scheduling as workload demands require.
