A little bit about the role!
Kent Scientific is looking for a Technical Product & Sourcing Specialist to support our growing portfolio of research tools and drive strategic product expansion as the primary focus, with customer support and service as a secondary responsibility. In this highly collaborative role, you’ll bridge technical support, product development, and sourcing strategy. Reporting to the Technical Resources & Product Lead, this person will support cross‑functional initiatives to identify and acquire new complementary products, engage suppliers, and assist customers with expert technical guidance.
You’ll act as a connector between customer needs, supplier capabilities, and internal stakeholders. Ideal candidates bring a blend of scientific curiosity, hands‑on experience in laboratory settings (especially in vivo), strong experience managing large‑scale and complex projects, and a knack for spotting opportunities in a competitive market. The Technical Product and Sourcing Specialist will be responsible for the following:
Driving Product Expansion & Sourcing Strategy- Researching and identifying new product opportunities, including accessories, consumables, and complementary product lines that align with Kent's vision and customer needs.
- Evaluating competitor offerings and market trends to inform roadmap recommendations and product positioning.
- Leading outreach to potential vendors, establishing supplier relationships, and supporting vendor negotiations on pricing, quality, and timelines.
- Collaborating with production, marketing, and sales to ensure new products are efficiently sourced, vetted, and ready for launch.
- Developing initial cost and margin analyses to support go/no‑go sourcing decisions.
- Working with marketing and product teams to prepare new products for market (from packaging and labeling through to positioning).
- Leading catalog expansion initiatives and managing sourcing programs end‑to‑end.
- Serving as a high‑level subject matter expert on our veterinary anesthesia and physiological monitoring equipment.
- Delivering in‑depth technical support to customers and internal teams, jumping in on complex tickets or escalations as needed.
- Contributing to the creation of scientific and technical materials - including white papers, application notes, training decks, and help center documentation.
- Participating in webinars, trade shows, and educational presentations (online and onsite) to showcase product capabilities and support customer learning.
- Partnering with tech resources, marketing, sales, and production to identify operational bottlenecks and support interdepartmental communication.
- Taking initiative on identifying and solving roadblocks related to vendor management, product setup, or internal handoffs.
- Assisting with light project management and documentation tasks to keep product and vendor pipelines moving smoothly.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in biology, physiology, animal science, or a related scientific field (LVT or LAT certification a plus; PhD preferred).
- Have 3–5 years of experience in product, sourcing, or vendor management, ideally within a biomedical or life sciences company.
- Bring strong experience managing large or complex projects (PMP certification preferred).
- Have hands‑on lab or research experience - particularly with in vivo animal models - and a demonstrated ability to design and conduct scientific experiments.
