Med/Surg experience, ability to prioritize care, multitask, start IVs, basic wound care, maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes.
Description:
The unit has a total of 20 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1. Tech support is available on both day and night shifts. A unit secretary is available from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Equipment used includes IV pumps, telemetry, SCDs, continuous pulse oximetry machines, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanners, and iMobile communication technology. The documentation system in use is Meditech.
Scheduling requires working three 12-hour shifts per week and two weekends (four shifts) within a four-week schedule. The floating policy states that contract labor is the first to float, with rotation applied if multiple staff members are scheduled. Providing attentive and compassionate care to patients and their family members is essential. Bedside shift report is expected, along with the ability to make personal connections with patients and include them and their family members in the care plan.
The unit holds certifications for comprehensive stroke care, trauma, and chest pain. There are no advanced skills required for this position, and there are no specific procedures performed on the unit. The dress code requires navy scrubs for both tops and bottoms.
