Overview
Animal Care Technician, PRN will cover shifts as needed at Abbie’s Safe Home (YWCA Pet Shelter). This role is responsible for ensuring that all animals in the YWCA Pet Shelter are cared for properly and humanely and that the clients of the Domestic Violence Shelter (DVC) have opportunity to care for and spend time with their animal. Responsible for the accuracy and maintenance of all records and files as well as the general upkeep of the facility and grounds.
Basepay range
$17.00/hr
Hours and Availability(We are currently seeking PRNs with availability to work Monday-Friday and/or Saturday and Sunday 9am-1pm or 5pm-9pm)
Responsibilities- Ensures that all animals in the Pet Shelter are cared for properly and humanely, including cleaning and maintaining kennels; feeding pets; bathing pets; taking pets to play areas for exercise; transitioning pets to carriers and vehicles; transporting and obtaining veterinary care; administering preventive and prescribed medications.
- Ensures that all Pet Shelter operating procedures are followed and the facility is maintained in a clean and organized manner.
- Maintains up-to-date animal health and vaccination records; reports health and safety issues as outlined in the Pet Shelter Operation Manual.
- Ensures accuracy of all forms, documents, and records; assists the Pet Shelter Director with required reports and records.
- In partnership with the Pet Shelter Director and Maintenance Tech, assists in resolving facilities-related issues, including contacting vendors, coordinating site visits, and ensuring issues are resolved following maintenance protocols.
- Maintains inventory and organization of supplies.
- Provides information and assistance to Pet Owners as necessary.
- Schedules appointments and assists with transporting animals for care as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of successful employment at a licensed Pet Kennel/Animal Care Clinic or a 501(c)(3) Pet Shelter/Rescue Organization, with direct care of animals and maintenance of records.
- Must be able to read, write, and converse in English; conversational Spanish is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to travel inside the Pet Shelter Facility and Play Area; must be able to take dogs to the play area for exercise.
- Able to lift/transport up to 75 lbs.
- Able to crouch, crawl, balance, climb, stretch, reach.
- Able to tolerate loud noise.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and a clear driving record for the last three years.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills; able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and community.
- Punctual, reliable, and dependable.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work with and respectfully address culturally diverse populations.
- Maintains patience and a calm presence in all interactions.
- Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to support the mission of the YWCA and communicate its importance verbally and in writing.
