Position at Intertek Building & Construction located in Nashville, Tennessee.

Job Description

Intertek's Building and Construction division is a suite of leading brands that offer innovative product and project solutions across multiple disciplines. The CWI role is a full‑time, year‑round position performing welding inspection duties at multiple construction projects throughout the Greater Nashville area.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations.
  • Test and inspect structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, and occasionally plant inspections.
  • Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings.
  • Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and upon completion.
  • Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
  • Record results of tests and welding inspections.
  • Able to issue and follow up on non‑conformances until closure.
  • Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, test, and integration to assure quality of assigned products or components.
  • Review all welded products or components and provide input to accept/reject decisions.
  • Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management.
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete) and provide assessment of data through reporting.
  • Operate a calculator to compute mathematical test results.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and that of others.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Available for long‑term, stable employment (not temporary or single‑project assignments).
  • Willing to perform construction materials testing as needed.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret tolerances.
  • Computer skills:
    Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works well independently and with others.
  • Willing to work off‑shift and overtime as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree in welding is preferred.
  • Construction materials testing experience is preferred.
