Quality and Process Engineer

Folding Guard® is an industry leader in the manufacturing of wire mesh safety, security and storage products.

Coordinates the Quality planning, monitoring, problem solving and continuous improvement functions to ensure that products conform to established customer and company standards. Assists other departments (Operations, Engineering, Materials, Logistics) to ensure overall success of projects and customer satisfaction. Interfaces with Suppliers and Customers regarding Quality issues. Mentors other members of the Quality department. Prepares presentations for Management level audiences and may attend for support.

• Serves as the Quality Assurance representative on New Product Introduction (NPI) team for all new product launches. Ensures that all required Quality Assurance items are included in the Master Timing Plan and that they are fully implemented and validated prior to program launch.
• Leads or assists in the development and consistency of process and quality documents including:
  Process Flow Chart, PFMEAs, Control Plans, Inspection Standards, Work Instructions and Visual Standards.
• Participates in new supplier evaluations and qualifications.
• Reviews Lessons Learned data from similar products and processes prior to launch to avoid repeat issues.
• Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.

• Interprets engineering drawings and specifications and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
• Develops standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
• Provides direction to Quality Assurance Inspectors performing sample audits of first piece, work-in-process and finished goods for conformance to requirements and specifications.
• Assists with disposition of materials which have failed test and are on hold in the defective material review area.
• Assists with plant ISO 9001 activities including internal auditing, calibration and document control.

• Leads cross-functional teams for corrective action efforts including root cause and countermeasure actions using customer and company required methodologies and formats (8D, 5-why, fishbone, etc.).
• Responds to customers within required time frames with detailed explanations of root causes and corrective actions.
• Updates Lessons Learned data to capture information for future use.
• Serves as continuous improvement leader for all products and processes including kaizen events, six sigma projects and evaluation of employee suggestions.
• Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of process capability.
• Leads scrap and damage reduction teams.

Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university (preferably in Engineering, Math or Science) and 3 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with third party quality system certifications such as ISO 9001.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and suppliers.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Certified as ISO 9001 internal auditor.
• Knowledge of Layered Process Audits (LPA).
• Knowledge of tracking Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and First Time Quality (FTQ).
• Certified Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt is a plus.
