Position Overview

Davey Resource Group, Inc. is actively seeking a self-motivated, organized, and dedicated individual to join our team in Nashville as an Environmental Scientist. DRG is seeking an Environmental Scientist who has a strong GIS and environmental data science background, has a background in stream and wetland science, and possesses a working knowledge of federal and state water resource and water quality regulations (e.g. Section 404 Clean Water Act Permitting, Section 401 Water Quality Certifications).

Proximity to the Nashville, TN area is preferable with the ability to perform work throughout Tennessee and adjoining states as necessary.

This is a full-time, salaried position with anticipated minimum of 40 hours per week. Compensation will be dependent upon the experience of the selected individual.

What You’ll Do:

Primary work duties of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Natural resource assessments.
  • Technical report writing.
  • Section 404 Clean Water Act permitting (and related 401 Water Quality).
  • The creation of customized maps.
  • Compiling and integrating field data into map deliverables.
  • Managing GIS data.
  • GIS scripting, and environmental monitoring and reporting (software that are predominantly used for these applications are ArcGIS Professional, ArcGIS Online, and QGIS).
  • Work more directly with clients.
  • Represent the company and the client at professional meetings.
What We’re Looking For:

An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Natural Resource Sciences or a related field.
  • Required:

    Course work, training, or commensurate applied experience in GIS software including ArcGIS Pro and/or open source GIS alternatives.
  • Required:

    Candidates should possess skills in using office software (Microsoft Word/Excel/Google Docs etc.), multi-tasking and working cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Required:

    Candidates should posses strong communication skills and a desire to work with others in a team setting.
  • Required:

    Candidates should also be comfortable with working outside (primarily woods) and in difficult (e.g. hot or remote) field conditions and be willing to travel.
  • Required:

    Driver’s license along with a clean driving record.
  • Preferred: 2 or more years of experience in performing GIS work and using GIS equipment.
  • Preferred:
    Additional coursework in wetland science, fisheries, geology, biology, or ecology.
  • Preferred:
    Prior experience in wetland delineation, Section 404/401 permitting, and TDEC permitting (particularly with demonstrated experience in Tennessee).
  • Preferred:
    Experience with wetland delineations, native plant identification, and soil profile descriptions
