Tower Technician IV - Nashville, TN

OVERVIEW

Leads and assists in the construction, installation, and maintenance of communications towers and support structures and related telecommunications equipment. Leads by example to facilitate timely job completion. Tower Technicians work irregular hours, travel frequently, and work at great heights in extreme weather conditions.

• Climbs and works on communication towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna system equipment.
• The basic use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
• Safety Management – ensures crew members are in compliance with company and customer safety requirements. Verifies and ensures all tools and rigging gear are safe to use.
• Completes required daily Job Safety Analysis (JSAs). Executes and manages, if required.
• Knows the hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working on or near energized lines and equipment.
• The ability to climb all structures (100 feet or more) with 50 lb load.
• Full understanding of a job or project Scope of Work (SOW).
• Ability to develop and write a detailed Method of Procedure (MOP) for a job/project.
• Analyzes situations accurately and adopts an appropriate course of action.
• Solid communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Follows instructions accurately and completes assigned course of action.
• Recognizes safety hazards and performs duties in a safe manner.
• Maintains clean, orderly environment adhering to company policies and industry regulation/standard(s) (OSHA).
• Experienced with custom tower rigging techniques.
• Performs stage drops.
• Proficient with all test equipment (sweeps, PIM, fiber testing etc.).
• Performs GPS antenna alignment (Sunsight AAT).
• Proficient with installation of antennas, RRH’s, ground kits, RET systems.
• Troubleshooting RET systems – bottom.
• Runs required lines to topo of the tower; grounds coax lines and builds different sizes and types of connectors.
• Stacks towers, installs sector mounts.
• Basic knowledge of microwave dish and radio installations.
• Recognizes safety hazards and performs duties in a safe manner.
• Ability to lead a 4‑m/ant tower crew safely and within established budgetary requirements.
• Ensures jobs are completed fully, meet all company and customer quality standards and all COP requirements are complying.
• Safely runs a winch/cat head.
• Troubleshoots GPS antennas.
• Troubleshoots tower lighting systems.
• TMA Gain testing experience.
• RF noise floor testing experience.
• Act as a team lead and mentor to experienced Tower Technicians.

• Must have High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3 to 4 years of industry experience.
• Excellent communication skills, reading and writing skills (English).
• Good computer skills. Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook).
• Clean driving record & valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work.
• Must be able to accommodate out of town travel, if required.
• Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
• Co‑train, OSHA 10, RFA awareness training, First Aid/CPR trained.
• Must have experience with Anritsu Site Master, Andrew, PPC, tower mapping and antenna equipment.
• Must have experience stacking self‑support towers, installing waveguide, antennas, and microwave dishes.
• RFA awareness, replacement and maintenance i.e., coax, jumpers, TMA’s, connectors, and weather proofing.
• Highly organized and be able to effectively report verbally and written reports back to the Tower Foreman.

The employee is required to walk much of the time. The employee is also occasionally required to sit.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme cold.
