Responsibilities

As our next Diesel Mechanic, you’ll be at the heart of our mission—delivering essential services that help improve public safety, enhance environmental quality, and keep things running smoothly. You’ll join a team that values hard work, safety, and showing up for one another.

Essential Functions
  • Assembly & Build:
    Build mechanical systems based on blueprints, technical specifications, and instructions. Follow torque specs, sequences, and ensure proper installation.
  • Inspection & Troubleshooting:
    Examine equipment and identify mechanical issues through visual inspection, listening for abnormal sounds, and checking system performance.
  • Diagnostics & Reporting:
    Use diagnostic tools and systems to run tests that determine root causes of malfunctions and maintain accurate records.
  • Repairs & Reliability:
    Perform mechanical work to restore function or improve reliability of machines. Replace or repair parts with safety and long‑term durability in mind.
  • Preventive Maintenance:
    Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks to prevent equipment breakdowns. Check, clean, adjust, and replace parts.
  • Lubrication & Fluid Handling:
    Manage lubrication and fluids critical to machinery operation. Apply grease/oil, check and replace fluids, and recognize signs of leaks or contamination.
  • Maintenance Advising:
    Communicate clearly with users about maintenance needs, care techniques, and best practices to prevent premature wear or breakdowns.
  • Auxiliary Repairs:
    Perform additional or specialized repair tasks such as hydraulic system maintenance, painting, electrical fixes, or minor body work outside core mechanical repairs.
  • Heavy Equipment:
    Service and repair large machinery such as sweepers, loaders, backhoes, and industrial vehicles. Understand their systems and operating conditions.
  • Attendance:
    Consistently report to work on time with minimal unexcused absences. Be present and prepared for assigned shifts, adhering to start times, breaks, and end times.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of proven experience as a level A Mechanic.
  • Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers).
  • Ability to follow procedures, read instruction manuals, and interpret wiring schematics.
  • Basic hand tools for daily use.
  • Commitment to health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong physical stamina and overall fitness.
  • Positive attitude and reliable attendance.
  • High school diploma preferred; vocational school or apprenticeship certification a plus.
  • ASE certifications preferred but not required.
