Diesel Maintenance Technician (B)
Vehicle Technician B will repair and maintain all types of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel‑powered equipment; perform job duties independently with limited supervision; provide mentoring and assistance to Vehicle Technician C's as needed.
Responsibilities- Perform some electrical, mechanical diagnostic, and repair of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel‑powered equipment
- Perform various forms of equipment repair including drive chain components, automatic brake systems, etc. through an intermediate level of experience and system knowledge
- Maintain accurate parts inventory, research, resolve all discovered inventory discrepancies and notify maintenance management when a resolution is not available
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and warehouse
- Perform other tasks as determined and requested by management
- Work in the Maintenance software system to record data, ensure DOT compliance, and ensure follow‑up of return orders
- Serve as a mentor for Vehicle Technicians C, as needed; may perform other duties as assigned
- Basic welding and cutting torch operation skills
- Basic electrical, mechanical diagnostics, and repair skills
- Understanding of tire inflation systems
- Knowledge and ability to mount and dismount tires
- Basic diagnostic tool skills
- Ability to schedule and prioritize daily tasks
- Must adhere to company uniform and appearance standards
- Professional and appropriate interaction with internal and external customers
- Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions for tools, equipment, machinery and/or materials used to power, hand, diagnostic tools operate material handling equipment
- Must be capable of driving company equipment including class 8 tractors under working conditions
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be able to vary the start and finish times, possibly including weekends and holidays
- Basic computer skills
- Each technician needs to provide their own tools
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge acquired through 3–5 years of relevant work experience
- D.O.T. Brake Inspection certification
- Ability to obtain a DOT medical certificate
- Pay rate starting at $28.00–$30.00/hr, depending on skillset and experience
