Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Jones Bros asphalt and aggregate facilities throughout Middle Tennessee. This traveling, hands-on role performs preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and installation work on asphalt plant, aggregate-processing, and material-handling equipment. The technician works closely with plant personnel to identify equipment concerns, minimize production downtime, and complete repairs safely and effectively.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None. This position may provide technical assistance or task-specific guidance to plant personnel during maintenance and repair activities but does not have formal supervisory responsibility.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair asphalt plant and aggregate-processing equipment, including conveyors, feeders, bins, hoppers, screens, elevators, drum/dryer components, baghouse systems, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pulleys, idlers, and related production equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, lubrication, adjustments, inspections, and component replacement to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Assist with and perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs involving industrial motors, wiring, switches, sensors, control circuits, motor controls, panels, and related plant electrical components within the employee's training, experience, and authorization.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, and, when applicable to the employee's training and experience, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and determine appropriate repair or escalation based on the nature of the problem.
  • Repair or replace worn or damaged components such as belts, bearings, rollers, shafts, pulleys, motors, hoses, fittings, guards, liners, and other plant wear parts.
  • Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and basic fabrication as needed to repair, reinforce, or modify plant equipment and structures, when trained and qualified.
  • Support plant start-up, shutdown, and production operations by responding to equipment failures and coordinating repairs with plant operators and supervisors.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, welding/cutting equipment, lifts, and other maintenance equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and verify equipment is placed in a safe condition before inspection, maintenance, or repair work begins.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify abnormal wear, vibration, heat, noise, electrical concerns, or other conditions that could lead to equipment failure or unsafe operation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair documentation, including completed work, inspections, parts used, equipment condition, and outstanding repair needs.
  • Maintain tools, service equipment, parts, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Travel between Jones Bros asphalt plants and related facilities throughout Middle Tennessee based on maintenance priorities and operational needs.
  • Operate company vehicles and, when properly licensed, trained, and authorized, other vehicles or equipment necessary to support plant maintenance activities.
  • Assist with general asphalt/aggregate plant and facility maintenance as operational needs require, consistent with training, qualifications, and applicable safety requirements.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and experience troubleshooting electrical problems associated with plant machinery and controls preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills for stationary production and material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and technical instructions; ability to interpret electrical schematics is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of conveyors, motors, bearings, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic components, and related industrial equipment.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively; experience using electrical diagnostic/testing equipment is preferred.
  • Welding, cutting, and fabrication skills preferred.
  • Ability to identify equipment conditions that may affect safety, production, or reliability and communicate repair needs clearly to plant personnel and supervision.
