Software Engineer, Backend

The Daily Wire is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to design and build the core services powering our media and platform infrastructure. In this role, you’ll work with technologies like Go, Postgre

SQL, Redis, AWS, Terraform, and Docker to develop scalable, high-performance systems that support ad tech integrations, payments, and platform growth. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer who excels at solving complex distributed‑systems challenges, collaborating across teams, and delivering reliable, high‑impact solutions that drive business performance.

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services using Go (Golang).
• Build and evolve distributed systems that power monetization and personalization features.
• Design APIs and data models that support content delivery, user activity, and ad infrastructure.
• Develop reliable data and caching layers using Postgre
  
  SQL, Redis, and AWS cloud services.
• Collaborate with platform and data teams to ensure performance, reliability, and observability.
• Optimize backend systems for scalability and cost efficiency.
• Conduct code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning to maintain high‑quality, maintainable systems.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement strategies to improve resilience.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging backend technologies, recommending improvements to existing systems and processes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience developing large-scale backend systems, with a focus on distributed services and APIs.
• Experience designing and deploying systems on AWS or similar cloud platforms.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and container orchestration tools such as ECS and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in Go or expertise in similar languages (Java, Kotlin, Rust, Python) with a willingness to work primarily in Go.
• Experience with ad tech platforms (e.g., VAST, SSAI, or programmatic video ads).
• Background in video streaming technologies (HLS, DASH, CDN optimization).
• Familiarity with Kafka, Rabbit
  
  MQ, or other messaging systems.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Exceptional problem‑solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
