Position SummaryWe are looking for a Big Data Engineer / Senior Level to join our team in Nashville, TN
. The role serves as a primary development resource for design, writing code, testing, implementation, documenting functionality, and maintaining Next Gen solutions for the GCP Cloud enterprise data initiatives. The position requires working closely with data teams in a matrixed environment as part of a broader project team. It demands staying well‑informed of technological advancements and being proficient at putting new innovations into effective practice.
The candidate will analyse business requirements, perform design tasks, construct, test, and implement solutions with minimal supervision and bring a record of successful projects in a fast‑paced, mixed‑team environment.
- Work with data engineers, data architects, and SIEM Team stakeholders to understand product requirements and design, build, and monitor streaming platforms that meet current needs and can scale gracefully.
- Implement automated workflows that lower manual/operational costs, define and uphold SLAs for timely data delivery, and move the company closer to democratizing streaming data.
- Enable a self‑service SIEM data architecture supporting query exploration, dashboards, data catalog, and rich data discovery.
- Promote a collaborative team environment that prioritises effective communication, member growth, and team success.
- Design and create real‑time data services using Confluent Kafka and/or Stream Sets to accelerate the time from idea to insight.
- Adhere to and support platform engineering best practices, processes, and standards.
- Produce high‑quality, modular, reusable code that incorporates best practices.
- Support security best practices that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements; mentor team members on complex data projects and Agile processes.
- Lead implementation of unit and integration tests and conduct performance testing where appropriate.
- Lead the HCA data community by evangelising data and platform engineering best practices, participating at community events, and encouraging ongoing development of others.
- Work closely with the Lead Architect and Product Owner to define, design, and build new features and improve existing products.
- Produce high quality code with good test coverage using modern abstractions and frameworks.
- Work independently, complete tasks on schedule with strong judgment and problem‑solving skills.
- Collaborate with team members to successfully execute development initiatives using Agile practices and principles.
- Participate in the deployment, change, configuration, management, administration, and maintenance of deployment processes and systems.
- Prioritise workload to meet deadlines and work objectives effectively.
- Adapt to rapidly changing business requirements and priorities.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and business/IT leaders to understand their needs and use cases.
- Work with management, architects, and other teams to develop and implement projects.
- Actively participate in technical group discussions and adopt new technologies to improve development and operations.
- Experience in application development for specific business environments.
- Build and support a GCP‑based ecosystem for enterprise‑wide structured, semi‑structured, and unstructured data analysis.
- Bringing new data sources into GCP, transform and load to databases, and support regular data transfer requests.
- Strong understanding of relevant product area, codebase, and systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis, programming, and software engineering.
- Work closely with Lead Architect and Product Owner to define, design, and build new features and improve existing products.
- Produce high‑quality code with good test coverage using modern abstractions and frameworks.
