This position performs professional and supervisory duties involved in planning, overseeing, and coordinating recreation or fitness programming for a community recreation center. It reports to the Facility Coordinator or Facilities Manager, who establishes program goals and assists with complex situations. The role requires a flexible work schedule.
Metro's Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs, including cultural arts, fitness classes, dog parks, nature programs, and extensive open spaces across 121 parks and 19 greenways. The department hosts activities like ice hockey, sports leagues, and art galleries, providing a vibrant environment for community engagement.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and monitor recreation, athletic, and fitness program services.
- Assess community needs and interests.
- Plan and develop goals, programs, services, and classes to meet community needs.
- Recruit instructors, coaches, and service providers as needed.
- Supervise full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff.
- Perform administrative functions.
- Work with management to establish program budgets.
- Attend meetings and workshops as required.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience supervising recreational or athletic programs; experience may substitute for education.
- Foreign credentials are encouraged to apply.
- Valid Driver's License is required.
- Certification in fitness areas from recognized organizations such as ACSM, NSCA, CSCS, or ACE.
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to fitness, athletic, and recreation programs.
- Knowledge of community resources and services.
- Experience in developing and implementing diverse fitness, athletic, and recreation programs.
- Experience leading recreation or fitness classes and coaching sports.
