Optometrist – Core Civic

Compensation: $65.00 - $100.00/hr

At Corecivic, we do more than manage inmates; we care for people. Corecivic is seeking an Optometrist who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting.

The Optometrist provides clinical support at designated facilities, delivering eye care including eye examinations to offenders housed at the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Performs eye examinations to diagnose vision problems and pathological conditions of the eye.
  • Tests inmate visual acuity, depth and color perception, and the ability to coordinate and focus the eyes.
  • Utilize established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions, while maintaining independent judgment.
  • Interpret and enforce all corporate policies and procedures, and the requirements of applicable laws, standards or contracts.
  • Communicate the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary and/or operational records, reports and logs.
  • Review, process and respond to lawsuits; attend court hearings when necessary.
  • Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and promote communications between administration, staff and inmates.
  • Communicate effectively and coherently to administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the general public, using diplomacy and good judgment, including interviewing applicants and providing testimony in court.
  • Motivate and encourage staff to perform their duties consistent with policy and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; order replacement items timely; process purchase requisitions.
  • Endure verbal and mental abuse in a hostile environment.
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters, administering basic emergency medical aid and evacuating people.
  • Apply crisis intervention techniques, including suicide prevention.
  • Experience exposure to body fluids, wastes, and deceased or contagious persons.
  • Comply with applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, and contracts.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations; handle difficult interpersonal contacts.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Participate in in-service and other training programs as required.
  • Remain alert at all times and react quickly, efficiently, and calmly in emergency and high-stress situations.
