Social Work - Custody and Removal Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications Summary Certification & Education

Degree issuing institution and or program must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Psychology, or an equivalent degree.
  • Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree preferred but not required
Experience Required
  • At least two (2) years of related experience (e.g., providing services to victims, trauma-informed programming, working with immigrants or foreign-born individuals) and knowledge of program objectives, policies, procedures, and requirements for case management at a local level.
  • Experience working with victims or individuals in a confinement or custodial setting.
  • At least two (2) years of experience providing services to vulnerable populations.
  • Understanding of situations contributing to family/individual stress, problems, and crisis situations.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, written and oral.
Job Objective

The Custody and Resource Coordinator (CRC) assists ERO Field Office and detention facility staff in maintaining a safe environment. The CRC provides services and support related to victims, trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and health care issues. The position is based at designated ICE detention facilities or offices, supporting daily operations.

Responsibilities
  • Address detainee needs, requests, and complaints regarding non-officer or immigration case issues.
  • Assist with detainee communication and welfare, including disability accommodations.
  • Facilitate compliance with agency policies and detention standards, including handling sensitive issues like sexual abuse allegations and health monitoring.
  • Provide language interpretation and support safety and security measures within the facility.
  • Support removal and release planning for vulnerable noncitizens, including research and resource development.
  • Develop and maintain a resource database for use in detainee release and removal processes.
Minimum

Job Requirements /Technical Requirements
  • Knowledge of case management processes at a bachelor’s level.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, written and oral.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and utilize interpreter services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with electronic health records and web-based tools.
  • Experience in detention or healthcare settings is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, critical thinking skills, and cultural competency.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and pass a background check with DHS’s Personnel Security Unit.
Physical Demands/Duty Hours/On-Call Requirements
  • Capable of working in stressful, austere environments without physical limitations.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work Monday through Friday, with specific hours determined by the office.
Travel Requirement
  • Travel within the US, including overnight, may be required, especially during surge situations. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Education & Certification

Must hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or equivalent. A master’s degree is preferred. Current certification in BLS or CPR from the American Heart Association or Red Cross is required. Candidates must provide proof of immunizations and negative TB test as per CDC guidelines.
