Job Title

Social Work/Custody and Removal Coordinator

Overview

The Custody and Removal Coordinator (CRC) assists ERO Field Office and detention facility staff in maintaining a safe detention environment and provides services to individuals on issues affecting the ICE detained population, including victims, trauma, abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and access to medical and mental health care. Duty location is at a designated ICE detention facility or ICE office, where the CRC supports daily operations of ERO staff and facility personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with needs, requests, and complaints from the detained noncitizen population regarding non-officer or immigration case related issues.
  • Assist ERO officers with requests related to parent/child communication and child welfare involvement.
  • Coordinate disability accommodations with detention facilities and follow up as requested by ERO HQ.
  • Facilitate compliance with agency policies and detention standards; communicate with detained noncitizens on topics such as allegations of sexual abuse, pregnancy monitoring, housing in special units, and intake/release.
  • Address questions or concerns about services for specific noncitizens and provide referrals for care and follow-up (medical, mental health, chaplain services, etc.).
  • Support noncitizens with specialized needs, including wellness checks and follow-ups as requested by ERO.
  • Meet newly detained noncitizens during or after intake to provide orientation to the detention facility and CRC services.
  • Support specialized housing programs for vulnerable populations (e.g., transgender housing, behavioral/mental health units, family residential centers, reunification efforts, young adult case management).
  • Provide language interpretation for facility and ERO staff communicating with detained noncitizens.
  • Assist with removal and release planning for noncitizens with vulnerabilities, including researching referrals and resources in the home country or the U.S. to develop departure and housing plans.
  • Develop and maintain a national resource database to facilitate release and removal processes.
Qualifications
  • Minimum knowledge of the case management process at bachelor level.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (written and oral) for most roles; ERO HQ positions may vary.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment; use telephonic interpretation when needed.
  • Adaptability to changing schedules and flexible work requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to build positive relationships in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proficiency with common Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint) and ability to operate a PC with standard business software.
  • Experience in detention/correctional or residential healthcare settings is preferred but not required.
  • Critical thinking, cultural competency, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • U.S. citizenship and Fitness Determination by DHS PSU as part of the selection process.
Physical Demands / Duty Hours / On-Call
  • Ability to perform duties in stressful environments without physical limitations.
  • Ability to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Full-time position requiring Monday to Friday day shift, with hours determined by ERO HQ and the Field Office.
Travel
  • Workday and/or overnight travel may be required, including surge support in ICE locations during crisis situations. Travel is reimbursed.
Education & Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or an equivalent degree;
    Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Current certification in American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross CPR/BLS. Candidates must provide proof of negative TB skin test and immunizations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza).
