Position: Police Officer 1 or 2
Northwestern State University's Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officers.

These positions are non-exempt under the provisions of the FLSA and may work rotating 12-hour shifts. They are subject to overtime, working weekends, holidays, and shift work.

Special Entrance Rate
Police Officer 1 - $18.58/hour
Police Officer 2 - $19.88/hour

As part of a Career Progression Group, the vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab on the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications, and job concepts for each level.

The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.

Minimum qualifications include no experience or training required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a current Louisiana driver’s license, and be willing to attain POST certification. Applicants convicted of a felony or under indictment are disqualified until relief is granted.

To protect lives and property through patrols, enforcing regulations, emergency services, minor crime investigations, and arrests as needed.

Entry level.

Supervision

Received from a higher-level police official. No supervisory duties.

Differs from Police Officer 2 by the absence of experienced-level duties.

  • Conducts foot or mobile patrols and enforces parking regulations.
  • Responds to emergencies and provides assistance.
  • Prepares activity reports.
  • Provides crowd and traffic control at events; may use force to make arrests or restore order.
