Overview
DEVCOM-SC Microorganisms Mitigation and Detection Research Opportunity — full-time fellowship at Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) in Natick, MA. The opportunity supports research on storage stability of a novel bacteriophage technology under military-relevant environmental conditions.
Responsibilities- Participate in a research study investigating storage stability of a bacteriophage technology in field-relevant conditions.
- Engage in activities related to sampling, data collection and data analysis over time to track study trends.
- Investigate bacteriophage excipient relationships to a mammalian cell culture host model.
- Research mammalian cell cultures and perform RT-qPCR analyzing potential gene expression changes in the host model after exposure to bacteriophage carried in varying excipients.

Anticipated Start DateExact start dates determined at time of selection. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
Appointment LengthTwelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to renew for additional periods. Extensions may depend on funding, project assignment, program rules, and participant availability.
Provisions- Stipend: $5,833 – $7,333 per month (full-time participation).

QualificationsThe qualified candidate will have a master’s degree or PhD in microbiology, immunology or related eligible discipline, with degree received within five years of the appointment start date. Highly competitive candidates will have education/experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Extensive knowledge of classical microbiology (culturing, maintaining, sampling BSL-2 microorganisms & bacteriophage overlay assays)
- Culturing, passaging and managing 2D mammalian cell culture techniques
- Rt-qPCR
US citizenship is required.
