AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN

Functions as a skilled technician capable of performing diagnoses and repairs across all areas.

• Performs work as outlined on the repair order efficiently and accurately, following dealership and factory standards.
• Diagnoses malfunctions and performs necessary repairs.
• Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
• Saves and tags parts for warranty or customer requests.
• Examines vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Communicates with the service advisor about additional work needed, work not required, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
• Documents all work performed and recommendations on the repair order.
• Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
• Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
• Keeps up-to-date with manufacturer technical bulletins.
• Supervises apprentice technicians as assigned.
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Ensures customer vehicles are kept clean and notifies the service advisor of any changes to vehicle appearance or condition.
• Keeps the shop area neat and clean.
• Maintains and is responsible for dealership tools and manuals, returning them in proper condition.
• Complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA standards.
• Operates tools and equipment safely and reports safety issues immediately.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.
