PurposeThe Student Success Advisor’s role within the military division is to identify, support, and encourage military service members and veteran students through successful completion of the program. The primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive academic support tailored to the unique needs and experiences of military-affiliated individuals. This position will require cross-departmental collaboration within the military division, which will ensure a smooth transition and academic success for military students pursuing their education.
EssentialRoles and Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one advising sessions with military students to assess their educational goals, interests, and career aspirations
- Offer ongoing support for military-affiliated students, addressing academic challenges, and connecting them with appropriate support services
- Conduct welcome calls to support new military student cohorts entering their programs. Collaborate with Admissions Advisors if new students are not meeting weekly grade and attendance requirements
- Maintain records of interactions with military students and track their academic progress
- Document all interactions with students within internal systems. Utilize internal systems with proficiency and accuracy in creating, maintaining, and updating student records
- Work closely with military students to develop individualized academic plans, taking into consideration their military duties, deployment schedules, and any other relevant factors
- Resolve student inquiries via phone, SMS, email, online support portal, and live chat channels
- Monitor weekly attendance and grades throughout the term and assist at-risk students with support
- Monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) results reported each term for assigned students
- Coordinate leave of absence documentation for military students needing breaks in their programs and inform students of any effects a leave of absence has on benefits, anticipated completion date, and course availability
- Collaborate with instructors to request, monitor, and support students needing course extensions, tutoring, or certification exam support
- Collaborate with all departments to resolve student inquiries including, but not limited to, equipment delivery, financial holds, registration, graduation requirements, loaner laptops, program completion requirements, and career support
- Purchase and distribute industry certification practice exams and vouchers. Track certification exam results for assigned students and provide encouragement and resources to help students pass certification exams
- Assist in planning, participating in, and promoting school events including graduation, academic workshops, CIAT-sponsored community events, and more
- Plan, organize, and attend final exam sessions on campus each term
- Adhere to CIAT’s compliance requirements to ensure all Federal, State, accreditation, and institutional policies and procedures are being met

- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with military service members, veterans, or military-affiliated individuals
- Knowledge of military culture, education benefits (such as the GI Bill and VR&E), and the challenges faced during the transition to civilian and academic life
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in an academic advising position in higher education preferred
