HII has built and maintained the U.S. Navy’s most powerful warships for over a century. We are seeking shipboard alteration Electronics Technicians for fleet modernization. Selected candidates will travel to shipyards and military bases as required, with travel and lodging expenses covered.
What You Will Do- Support the Systems Integrations department on active class submarines, surface ships, and shore‑based communication facilities.
- Install, upgrade, remove, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables and connectors for fleet modernization contracts.
- Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, and provide work direction to others; may lead or manage multiple jobs.
- Develop and use technical documents, controlled work packages, procedures, test documents, reports, and trip reports.
- Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management; perform quality inspections and basic duties outside of specialty as needed.
- High school education, trade school, or equivalent, with 4 years of related experience. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
- Current or active DoD Secret security clearance.
- Capability to obtain and maintain DBIDS base access.
- Willingness to travel when not assigned to local tasks.
- Experience in installing, repairing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables and multi‑pin connectors on Navy and/or marine vessels.
- Fiber fusion splicing experience.
- Blow‑fiber and termination experience.
- Large NIWC/SPAWAR integrated installation contract experience preferred.
- Shore C4I experience preferred.
- Fiber Optic and Multi‑Pin Connector certifications preferred.
- Prior Quality Assurance certifications preferred.
- Shipyard Competent Person (SCP) certification preferred.
- Prior AIT or active duty experience on current active class ships preferred.
- Valid U.S. travel passport preferred.
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes, minimum 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. May be required to work in high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, work aloft or over ship sides, and ride ships at sea for extended periods.
May require respirator use. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
