Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, enforce the safety regulations for the protection of pool patrons; make suggestions for new or updated regulations; assist in general maintenance of pool facilities, and perform other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager, Parks and Recreation Manager, or Parks and Recreation Specialist.
Summary of DutiesORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to:Pool Manager. In the absence of the Pool Manager, work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Manager or Parks and Recreation Specialist.
- Directs:This is a non-supervisory position.
- Other:Works closely with Parks and Recreation Department and the general public; has contact with other city employees.
- Assists in preparing the pools and surrounding areas for approved programs and assists with general maintenance and upkeep of the facility.
- Assists with lifeguard programs at the facility, including, but not limited to recreational swimming, swim lessons, and other pool programs and events.
- Attends certification or re-certification programs as needed to meet the minimum requirements for employment.
- Provides the most adequate protection for patrons.
- Assists in rendering first aid according to the standards established by the American Red Cross.
- Alerts Pool Manager of all problems and needs concerning pool maintenance and patron safety.
- Participates in daily routine maintenance and cleanliness of facility.
- Remains prepared to perform water rescues.
- Reports all unusual situations, incidents and accidents to Pool Manager.
- Attends all staff meetings as scheduled by Pool Manager or Parks and Recreation Supervisors.
- Works weekends as assigned and attends two (2) mandatory in-services during the summer season.

QualificationsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
General pool facilities operations, personnel policies.
Skill/Ability to:
Follow regulations and guidelines set forth by Pool Manager; follow procedures and create a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduation, or its equivalent, or currently attending high school.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Appropriate Texas driver's license or available alternative means of transportation.
American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, or its equivalent.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, or its equivalent.
