The role

As Product Design Lead, you will lead and support the design of the Raspberry Pi Foundation's digital products, helping ensure they are accessible, engaging, and effective for young people, educators, and volunteers. You will manage a small multidisciplinary design team and play a key role in shaping how user-centred design is practiced across product teams, combining leadership with hands-on involvement where it adds value.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, particularly the Senior Brand and Design Manager in the Marketing team, to ensure a consistent experience across product, brand, and communications. You will also collaborate with Learning teams to make sure the products we build are designed to help young people and educators learn effectively.

We are looking for an experienced product design leader who is collaborative and pragmatic, with a strong interest in designing products that support learning and education. You will be confident supporting and developing others, working across disciplines, and using insight from users and data to guide design decisions. You care about accessibility, inclusion, and creating products that help people learn effectively.

We work hard to make sure that the Foundation is a place where everyone is supported to do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you're the right person for the job, we'll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you'll be joining an exceptional team of people who care about our mission and each other.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a small multidisciplinary team of Product Designers, User Experience Researchers, and Content Designers to deliver high-quality, user-centred digital products
  • Provide day-to-day management and guidance to the design team, supporting good decision-making, professional development, and strong design practice
  • Spend around 20% of your time working hands-on, using your design expertise to collaboratively solve complex problems and lead workshops
  • Work closely with Product Managers and Software Engineers across agile, cross-functional product teams to design, test, and iterate on solutions
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Brand and Design Manager in the Marketing team to ensure a consistent experience across product, brand, and communications
  • Work with Learning teams to ensure products are designed to help young people and educators learn effectively
  • Contribute to shared design principles, patterns, and the design system to support consistency, quality, and accessibility across products
  • Ensure design decisions are informed by appropriate research, data, and testing with real users
  • Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design, embedding the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code into everyday design practice
Experience And Personal Attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they have some, but not necessarily all, of the experience and personal attributes listed here.

  • Significant experience as a Product Designer working on digital products, with a strong understanding of user-centred design practice
  • Experience leading and supporting Product Designers and User Experience Researchers, including coaching and day-to-day guidance
  • Experience working closely with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and other disciplines in collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in agile product teams, contributing to iterative delivery and continuous improvement
  • An interest in, or experience of, designing products that support learning or education
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues in Marketing, Learning, and other teams
  • A pragmatic, evidence-informed approach to design, using research, data, and testing to guide decisions
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain design thinking and decisions to a range of audiences
  • A commitment to accessibility and inclusive design
