Do you thrive on keeping young people active, focused and motivated? Have you picked up valuable skills through sport, coaching, youth work or hands-on activities? A welcoming secondary school in Merthyr is looking for a Sporty Learning Assistant to support students who benefit from movement, structure and positive role models. This role is ideal for someone who understands how sport and activity can build confidence, improve behaviour and re-engage learners.
No formal qualifications are required. If you can connect with young people, stay calm under pressure and bring energy to the school day, we want to hear from you.

- u2022 You'll be part of a supportive school team, working with pupils who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation or engagement. Using sport, physical activity and mentoring, you'll help students stay focused and feel included.
- This role includes:
- Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups, both in class and through active interventions
- Using sport, games and structured activities to encourage positive behaviour
- Helping de-escalate challenging situations in a calm, consistent way
- Building strong, trusting relationships with students
- Encouraging attendance, routine and engagement with learning
- Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support behaviour plans
We're especially keen to hear from people with experience in:
- Sports coaching or fitness instruction
- Youth work or mentoring
- Residential care or support roles
- Outdoor education, activity clubs or alternative provision
- Roles where motivation, teamwork and resilience were key
- You don't need school experience — transferable skills are what matter most.
If you're:
- Confident, approachable and resilient

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
