We are seeking to second inspirational and experienced senior leaders with a proven track record in school improvement to join our School Improvement Team for a one‑year secondment (September 2026 - 18 July 2027). This is an excellent professional learning and career development opportunity for highly effective leaders who are passionate about making a difference beyond their own school. The role offers the opportunity to influence and support system‑wide improvement across our primary schools, working at both school and cluster level.
As a Primary Educational Support Adviser, you will contribute to the Local Authority's vision for high‑quality, inclusive education, working collaboratively with school leaders to strengthen teaching, learning, leadership and learner outcomes in line with the Curriculum for Wales.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborative School Improvement – Work alongside headteachers and senior leaders to support self‑evaluation, improvement planning and sustained progress.
- Professional Learning & Leadership Development – Design, facilitate and model high‑quality professional learning to build leadership capacity across schools and clusters.
- Curriculum for Wales – Provide expert guidance to support the effective design, implementation and refinement of the curriculum, ensuring progression, coherence and high expectations for all learners.
- Teaching & Learning – Promote and model evidence‑informed pedagogy to improve learner engagement, progress and wellbeing.
- System Leadership – Contribute to Local Authority priorities, ensuring alignment between school, cluster and LA improvement agendas.
- An experienced and highly effective senior leader (e.g. at least 3 years' experience as a Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher or equivalent).
- A strong track record of raising standards and leading successful school improvement.
- Deep understanding of Curriculum for Wales, pedagogy and assessment.
- A skilled communicator with the ability to influence, challenge and support school leaders.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion and improving outcomes for all learners.
The role requires the ability to communicate effectively in both Welsh and English in order to support schools and stakeholders across the Local Authority.
