Position: Cover Supervisor (Level 3) - Portfield School

Teaching Assistant/Cover Supervisor Level 3 & Teaching Assistant Level 2

Hours: 34.5 hours per week

  • Teaching Assistant/Cover Supervisor Level 3: 32.5 hours per week
  • Teaching Assistant Level 2: 2 hours per week

We are seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dedicated school team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential.

The successful applicant will undertake a dual role, working primarily as a Teaching Assistant/Cover Supervisor Level 3, with additional Teaching Assistant Level 2 responsibilities. You will support teaching and learning across the school, work closely with pupils and staff, and supervise classes during the short-term absence of teachers.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant/Cover Supervisor Level 3, you will work under the guidance of teaching staff to support learning, deliver interventions, monitor pupil progress and contribute to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. You will also supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring pupils remain engaged in their learning and that standards of behaviour are maintained.

The Teaching Assistant Level 2 element of the role will involve providing additional support to pupils, assisting with classroom activities and helping to ensure all learners can access the curriculum effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils' learning and development on an individual and group basis.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of learning activities.
  • Support pupils with additional learning needs.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Deliver targeted interventions and support programmes.
  • Supervise classes during the short-term absence of teachers.
  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, purposeful learning environment.
  • Prepare and organise learning resources.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the wider life and ethos of the school.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times.
Essential Requirements
  • A recognised Level 3 qualification relevant to the role, such as:
    • NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants
    • Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education
    • NVQ Level 3 Childcare in Education
    • City & Guilds Advanced Certificate in Learning Support

Alternatively, a relevant professional qualification, such as Teaching, Social Work, Nursing or a relevant degree, will be considered.

  • A minimum of two years' recent relevant experience supporting children and young people.
  • Experience of delivering learning programmes and supporting pupils with a range of learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children, staff and parents/carers.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding.
  • The ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
