Are you a PhD qualified chemist with a strong background in polymers and a passion for leading technical innovation? Our client, a leading manufacturer of polymer products, is looking for a dynamic and experienced Technical Manager to lead R&D, Quality and Technical Operations on their site.
What You’ll Be DoingYou will lead all technical aspects of the business, ensuring innovation, compliance and operational excellence across the site.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading R&D functions, new product development and scale-up into full production.
- Managing and supervising QC systems, including customer, internal and finished product specifications.
- Overseeing complaint investigations and technical reporting.
- Supporting and maintaining the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 requirements.
- Liaising with external regulatory bodies and fulfilling reporting requirements.
- Managing technical issues relating to production processes in collaboration with site management.
- Ensuring compliance with chemical health & safety requirements, including COSHH, MSDS and technical datasheets.
- Supervising laboratory personnel and ensuring best practice in all technical spaces.
- Supporting cross-functional departments (finance, regulatory, etc.) with technical documentation.
- Travelling nationally and internationally to support technical projects where required.
This is a hands-on role requiring both strategic oversight and practical bench work.
What You’ll Bring- PhD in Chemistry.
- Proven experience within the polymer industry (photopolymer chemistry highly desirable).
- Strong knowledge of chemical health & safety principles.
- Experience working within a highly regulated Quality Management System environment.
- Demonstrable leadership experience within a technical or laboratory setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Environmental compliance experience.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 and Medical Device regulatory requirements.
- Formal Health & Safety qualification.
