We are seeking an experienced Research and Development Engineer in marine planning logistics, with skills in Python programming to join our rapidly growing team.
You will work on the back-end code for our software solutions to develop software features and address issues in response to internal and client requirements. As a well-rounded, flexible and an excellent team player you will develop robust algorithms that are computationally efficient. You will have a keen interest in global challenges including energy security and net-zero, and be able to engage with clients and internally.
You will be self-motivated, creative, and have innovative flair.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities- Keep up to date with industry knowledge as the internal expert on marine logistics planning
- Develop new products and product features in Python, including design definition and user documentation
- Maintain and develop existing software features
- Identify and scope new features and solutions that could form future R&D activities
- Undertake R&D activities, including innovative algorithm development
- Maintain international company presence by participating in conferences and webinars, seeking new opportunities in areas relevant to the company
- Utilise our unique products and services, coupled with your own expertise, to deliver consultancy projects to clients
- Deep expertise in marine engineering including design, construction, operation, and maintenance of offshore structures and marine infrastructure, as well as vessel types and operations
- A strong understanding of model-based engineering, the required accuracy for the task in hand, and the sources of error between the real world and the model
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write specifically and concisely and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
- Experience in using or developing marine planning software
- A strong understanding of weather modelling or weather window analysis
- Experience working in the energy sector and in particular, offshore wind
- Proven experience in understanding and defining new software requirements, identifying and implementing the most appropriate algorithm or technique to meet the requirements
- Proven experience delivering highly uncertain collaborative R&D projects, as well as undertaking independent research
- A good understanding of one or more of the following areas: mooring systems, or floating wind or optimisation or data science
- Experience in using other programming languages
- A good professional network with excellent rapport with relevant potential new clients
- Experience working offshore in transport and installation or operations and maintenance of offshore infrastructure
- A proven ability to write successful proposals and win new fee-earning work related to your expertise
- Experience managing, coaching or mentoring more junior staff
