OCU Group are looking to recruit a Design Engineer to play a key role in the design and delivery of LV switch gear, MCCs, and control panel systems. Working as part of a growing design and manufacturing team, you will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through to build, testing, and commissioning support. This is a hands‑on role where you ll collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, and workshop colleagues to turn designs into real‑world solutions.

What You ll Do
  • Support the design and development of LV switch gear, MCCs, and control panel systems.
  • Produce and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using design software such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
  • Help develop complete electrical systems, including the integration of motors, sensors, valves, pumps, PLCs, HMIs, and other field devices.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and workshop teams to support the build and assembly process.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), fault finding, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist with technical documentation, quotations, and project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Essential
What you ll bring
  • Experience or exposure to electrical design, control panels, automation, switch gear, or related electrical systems.
  • An understanding of how electrical systems are designed, built, or connected in practice.
  • A practical, hands‑on engineering mindset with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple teams.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Desirable
  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
  • Experience with in a manufacturing, workshop, industrial, or engineering environment.
  • Exposure to PLCs, HMIs, VSDs, relays, sensors, or industrial automation systems.
  • Experience supporting control panel build, assembly, testing, or commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of LV switch gear or motor control centres (MCCs).
  • Electrical engineering qualifications, apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or related technical training.
