About The Role

Catering Assistant – Dan Y Coed School, Swansea – Term Time Only – 39 Weeks per Year – Hourly Rate: £14.12 – £14.37.

Are you reliable, organised, and passionate about providing healthy, nutritious meals in a school environment? Dan Y Coed School is looking for a friendly and committed Catering Assistant to join our catering team and support the day‑to‑day delivery of a high‑quality food service for our pupils and staff.

Dan Y Coed School is a specialist school in Swansea supporting children and young people with autism and complex needs. As part of our wider school community, the catering team plays a vital role in creating a positive, safe, and welcoming environment where pupils can thrive.

• Assisting with food preparation, including basic items such as sandwiches, salads, vegetables, and desserts
• Serving meals to pupils, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, dining, and food service areas
• Washing utensils, crockery, and kitchen equipment
• Supporting stock control, deliveries, and safe food storage
• Following food safety, allergen awareness, HACCP, Health & Safety, and safeguarding procedures
• Setting up and clearing dining areas before and after service
• Supporting special events, themed days, and school functions when required
• Promoting healthy eating and positive behaviour during mealtimes

• A positive, reliable, and proactive approach to work
• Good teamwork and communication skills
• Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety (or willingness to learn)
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
• A friendly and respectful manner when working with children and colleagues
• Previous catering or kitchen experience is desirable but not essential

• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths desirable
• Full training provided, including Food Safety, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, and Allergen Awareness
