Foster Wales Neath Port Talbot is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our innovative in‑house Therapeutic Team, the Multi‑Agency Therapeutic Support Service (MATSS).
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well‑established service that supports foster carers, social work teams, children and young people through a trauma‑informed and therapeutic approach.
Our MATSS team plays a vital role in helping foster carers understand and respond to the impact of trauma, attachment difficulties, loss and adversity. By strengthening carers’ confidence, knowledge and resilience, the team helps children and young people experience safe, secure and stable family‑based care, reducing the risk of placement breakdown and supporting positive outcomes.
Responsibilities- Support the delivery of therapeutic and trauma‑informed interventions for foster carers and professionals.
- Assist in the development and facilitation of therapeutic support groups and training programmes.
- Contribute to consultations with foster carers, social workers and other professionals.
- Support the evaluation and monitoring of therapeutic interventions and outcomes.
- Assist with the development of resources to enhance foster carers’ understanding of attachment, trauma and child development.
- Gather, analyse and present information to support service improvement and evidence‑based practice.
- Work collaboratively across children’s services, education, health and partner agencies to strengthen the team around the child.
- Holds a recognised Psychology degree.
- Has a strong interest in child psychology, attachment, trauma, child development and therapeutic practice.
- Has experience of working with children, young people, families or carers in a supportive or helping role.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is able to build positive relationships with foster carers and professionals from a range of disciplines.
- Has strong organisational skills and can manage competing priorities.
- Is committed to improving outcomes for care experienced children and young people.
Experience with in fostering, children’s social care, education, mental health or family support services would be advantageous.
